What is your photo
secretly revealing?

Phone photos and videos quietly carry hidden data — the exact GPS spot they were taken, your device, the time. Drop one below and see what a stranger would see. When a platform strips your GPS, remember: it still received your GPS. This check never leaves your browser.

Questions

Good to know

Does it work with iPhone photos and videos?
Yes — HEIC straight off an iPhone is the format most likely to still carry GPS, because it hasn't been through a platform that stripped it. iPhone and Android video (MOV/MP4) works too, including the location and device details Apple writes into the file. JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and TIFF are all read as well.
Does this remove the metadata, or just show it?
Just shows it — this tool is for checking what's hiding in a file before you post it. To actually strip it, use the Scrubber (a free account feature) which cleans the file for you.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Reading EXIF data happens entirely in your browser — the file never leaves your device.
Does removing EXIF data reduce image quality?
No — metadata is separate from the pixel data. Stripping it doesn't touch how the image looks.
Isn't this what my phone's "remove location" setting already does?
That setting stops your phone attaching GPS to new photos — it doesn't touch photos you already took, and it still received your GPS at the moment of capture. Photos already on your camera roll, or shared before you turned it on, can still carry it.
Do I need an account to keep using this?
No — this free tool doesn't expire or require sign-up. An account just unlocks more (see below).
Is there more with an account? Is that it?
This tool only checks one photo at a time. With an account, the Scrubber cleans a whole batch of photos and videos at once, and can auto-scrub everything you add to your Media Vault — so nothing hidden ever leaves your device by accident.
What else can Obsydian do?
Beyond checking metadata, Obsydian covers watermarking, leak detection and secure storage in one place: an invisible/visible watermarker, a leak check that scans the web for reposts, a proof-of-ownership Media Vault, and the link-in-bio page itself. See the full overview or pricing.
